I see that the January transfer window spinning has already started at Sevco.
The folk at Sky that are regaling us on Twitter with tales of an offer for Josh Windass from Preston North End.
I contacted a well-placed source about this and he poured cold water on the notion.
He said that, as of lunchtime today, that there had been no move from PNE.
However, he did tell me that Wigan Athletic HAVE made an offer to Sevco for the ex-Accrington Stanley starlet.
My information is that that the initial bid from the League One side was £150k rising to £200k with add-ons.
However, the Holding Company Vehicle had a much higher value which the English side considered to be rather risible.
I am also told that the Sevco High Command are very keen that this piece of putative transfer business remains under wraps.
Oh dear.
thank you for your contribution to our cause throughout the year phil.you should be sponsored by saxa for the amount of salt you pour into sevcos wounds.i hope you and yours have a great 2018 and all who follow you on whichever medium.celtic football club gave us all so much to be proud of these last 12 months and I salute them.sad to say many of us lost a loved one and they will be forever in our thoughts.tommy gemmel, paul Wilson, thank you for the memories.you will never walk alone.
Again off topic but Celtic related.
I would take a punt on Hibs John McGinn, He could be the successor to our captain in a year or two, I don’t think Kouassi is the answer or we would have seen a bit more of him.
I also like the look of Hibs winger Brandon Barker. Not a bad player that boy. Fast and direct. I think he is on loan from English lower leagues. Can’t be arsed googling it but I would take him as well.
HH
He’s on loan from Man City, I believe
Bruno Alves is reportedly their highest earner, what chance do they have of moving him on at his age and seeing him limping off yesterday, he will be there until he decides he’s had enough.
On a separate note I thought Madden had a fairly good game yesterday free of any serious debatable decisions
Football is our business. While Sevco celebrate another draw, Celtic fans breathe a collective sigh of relief that our hardworking team has the opportunity to regain their strength over the next three weeks. It has been a long, hard campaign, and but for a rub of the green, we would have won in style today against an energised Sevco, packed with players seeking a new berth in the new year. I wish them well. At the end of the day, football is a profession, just as much as a club is a business. There are rules to play to, and those who do deserve their rewards, while those who don’t will, ultimately, pay the penalty.
And by the way, Bobby Madden had a rotten game. A Celtic player would have had to stand on a landmine to get a free kick within firing range of the Sevco goal. Shocking stuff.
I’d like to thank the Celtic players wholeheartedly for their efforts the last 18 months. Particularly for digging deep for the last three games.
It’s not your fault. Poor performances are not your fault.
Try and not think football at all for three weeks no matter how much anyone else wants you to focus on it. You owe it to your own well being. Switch off completely to it.
Congratulations to Rodgers and Lawwell. Well done, you’ve burned them out.
Saw it coming over a month ago. Wrote about it. Now it’s here.
Good call mate.
Good shout.
Ending a season on 31 May and only giving them two weeks holiday before club promotion diddy tournaments such as the Dublin Aviva stadium and then challenging pre season competition is very bad man management.
It kicks you in the teeth in December. When it matters! Brendan mentions 38 games since August but there were 8 in June July, flying all over the place to coin it in for Peter.
Then there’s several international games for almost the complete Celtic first 15.
These guys have been playing without a decent break for two hard years. If I hear the club has “local friendlies” lined up in Dubai I won’t be pleased at all. Lawwell will have them on a game a week over there.
They need LESS Celtic time not MORE Celtic time.
Three weeks mental relaxation away from management is required.
And six weeks downtime this summer. No less!
We can laugh at Sevco all we want, but we were atrocious today. Need to mind our own business first.
Aye, I doubt if we could have played worse. By the same token I think they played well beyond their normal capabilities. AND THEY STILL COULDN’T BEAT US. This is all they have to look forward to for the foreseeable future. A draw every season or so against a tired Celtic side, maybe a win every few seasons. This will represent success for them. All interspersed with regular multigoal humpings. As Phil so succinctly puts it the Espanol of Glasgow.
Celtic would never fly an £18 million kite for a player supposedly worth 50% more a year ago of course
Not worth two bob on today’s showing.
NEIL, unlike Larson,I honestly don’t think the buoy has recovered from his last injury,he was being touted at £30million,now your correct I would estimate his value around 1/2 of that,he will go in January and he will get better when he is fit and he will move on for a bigger fee, look at Virgil, and we will benefit from Dembelle as we did with Virgil.HH.
I’ll give you two bob for him, but not a penny more.
Signed,
Dave King.
Or maybe brighton’s actually his level, based on a few of his latest display ‘s no top 6 Epl club won’t take a punt of 18-20 million fee on the basis of those performances.Last seasons Mussa I would.Hail Hail
Undeniably fair comment, but then it is Celtic’s business to maximise return on player investment, just like Sevco with Windass or all the stories about RB Leipzig going to splash mullyins on Barrie McKay.
It must gall Sevco that Celtic will get more income from a player we no longer own than their entire squad is worth. That’s how you run a club.
Off topic I know but I thought Celtic were every poor today and I thought Sevco played the best I have seen since they were born, So a bit of credit must go to them I suppose.
I think Dembele’s mind was elsewhere, Sinclair played like Sir Clive and we really have Gordon to thank or the knuckledraggers really would have been celebrating……even more, I f that was possible.
I thought our captain was superb.
HH
Murty’s comments recently on transfers were open to interpretation. He seemed to suggest all current players would face questions as to what is best for their long term futures in the next few weeks.
I think it’s clear that we are looking at an existential crisis here. They need to sell players in order to keep the thing afloat. But what happens if they don’t manage to do that, or they don’t do enough?
I have a sense that the dichotomy between club and company is going to become important in the next few weeks.
The knives are out for King in the media. Et tu Boydy?
I think we are about to see exactly how much leverage King has and how far he is prepared to go to protect his interests. They seem to hope he will be glad to go, leave it all behind, and move on.
Hi Phil , would just like to extend my sincere thanks for your sterling work with regards to providing your many readers with concice , courageous and fearless reporting of the facts and unpleasant truths that our lecherous SMSM seem totally devoid of acknowledging .
Time and again your scoops are top notch and 100% accurate in their divulgence of the facts , figures and legitimacy .
It has undoubtedly been a extremely tough year for you on a personal note but I’m sure I speak for your many grateful readers in wishing you a Happy & Prosperous new year and every success with your first novel . HH
I seem to recall that Craig Whyte was holding out for (I think) £9 million for Jelavic, then when things went rather “tits up”, they sold him to Everton for less than half that. In the process, they shafted Rapid Vienna for over £1 million from that sale. I’d be very worried as a buying club if I bought a “rangers” player, based on their previous!
Maybe Craigy Bhoy is working as an independent financial advisor to Sevco, hence the ridiculous fees being attributed to each player? The truth is, if I won £1 million in the lottery, and decided to buy the entire sevco team, I’d still be left pondering how I should spend the remaining £999,999.99!!
Incredibly, the Windass/PNE fantasy has been the MAIN SPORTS article on the BBC Scotland Sports site since yesterday (15hrs and counting..).
No other sports event or happening is more important, be it football, rugby, tennis, athletics…
Sorry, article was penned by Simon Stone – On-Line Sports Writer BBC – 21 hours ago…
I guess if they can’t off-load them, Rangers will shiftily sell Rangers to Rangers and give them new lower contracts !
One of their fansites was peddling this as an “English club activates £3.5m release caluse in Windass’ contract” story. I kid you not. The only thing that is off the radar over in Sevconia is their utter delusion!
You know this how….?
FOR SALE
Anyone and everyone.
Stupid prices.
They’ll turn bids down initially but will be back chasing potential buyers later if no-one else has turned up with better money.
Kevin Barry Ferguson believes Master Murty can only avail of January loans because his tenureship lasts to end of season..money bags Barry opines that no one would sign a three year deal if the manager is only there until the summer.
FFS..they’ll come up with any crap other that the reality of Dave Bhoy King having no arse in his trousers.
Hope the animals have been toilet trained for tomorrow
Will they disclose what the going rate for The Undisclosed is likely to be? Unlikely. Fans might be upset to know the club is paying more in wages than the market value of more recent acquisitions. Let us hope the players find better-run clubs to play for. They owe Sevco nothing. As for the high-Level spin. That too is costing far more than it is worth. Perhaps Airdrie will make a move for Jabba’s services?
Well they do say every player has his price. Unfortunately for Sevco, despite their cravings and necessity for a huge sale, every one of their players would only go for between £100k and Free! They don’t have a single player who would enhance any other team, let’s be honest, they don’t even enhance Sevco!
What I just cannot get my head around is why the media outlets of every format have allowed themselves to be roped into the absolute nonsense which is Sevco?
They must know it’s not working and everyone is laughing at anything the say or print, except for the daftest Sevconians. All we look forward to from the World’s Most Embarrassing Club is “Statement O’Clock” which brings a whole new level of satire to their ridiculous existence.
They need to soothe the klan readers of the Sun or Daily Ranger or they simply would not sell a paper.
Thankfully with news available online I can see the newspaper trade in scotland dying. They only have themselves to blame of course as they are the ones keeping the myth of Rangers still being alive going.
You cannot really blame them for not telling the truth on the Rangers as their children get abuse at school, Windows smashed etc etc by the Klan if they do.
shame really……..
But as Leigh Griffiths has already stated to one knuckledragger “your club is deed mate”
HH
Phil ,I wish you and your family all the best for the coming new year ,thanks for all your posts .God bless
They are all pure muck with the exception of Declan John, I think there is a player in there somewhere.
4-0 the hoops tomorrow.
COYBIG
And the sevco Panto just keeps giving??? TRULY PRIC£L£$$
Haha. They thought earlier on under the magic hat that he would uncover gems in the lower leagues for peanuts and sell for many millions. But we all know the end of that story lol. Then Pedro was going to do the same now we see the error of their ways again. They must think all they have to do is name their price and everybody will just say no problem 3bags full the jealousy is eating away at them HH
Not to be confused with The Canterbury Tales where there was a ‘Miller’s Tale’. Oh wait…
Keep up the good work, and (if I may) here is a reflection on a recent Celtic transfer tale… https://theclumpany.wordpress.com/2017/12/29/when-dembele-almost-left-celtic/
The sales pitch is rolling on Sky with Murty saying he’ll be surprised if Pena stays in this window. All up for sale, apparently, but not surprisingly.
Did Pena touch the ball after he came on yesterday?
