Follow follow the Euros out of Hampden

Last night, apart from being hilarious, was a severe financial hit for the basket of assets.

Dear Philippe, bless him,  was counting on a couple of acquisitions for his misfiring squad, one a loan and another a free transfer.

The Belgian has stated publicly that success in the qualifying rounds would allow him to have a budget for players he otherwise wouldn’t have.

My information is that he was told last night that he could forget about any new faces after the defeat to the displaced Ukrainian side.

Of course, as part of Operation Soothe, the Stenography Corps will do its mediocre best to massage the figures down.

I contacted someone with a granular knowledge of UEFA revenues and asked him what the defeat meant to Sevco in financial terms.

This is the message he sent me:

“The Champions League would have been €43m before ticket sales. Europa League it’s around €12m. Win tonight worth €4.29m.”

Given the source, I’ll go with those figures.

So, had Sevco prevailed against Dynamo Kyiv the victory was worth several million Euros.

That’s not quite the sum they owe the Administrators of Elite Sports (say, £6.5m), but it would definitely have helped.

The Transcendental Chairman would undoubtedly have reached the highest levels of tranquillity as he realised that the earmarked Euro funds would not be available for the first instalment of the Elite settlement.

My understanding is that the agreed amounts of those payments and when they are to be paid are lodged with the court.

Consequently, there is no wriggle room for the brethren in the Blue Room.

Then there are the questions about what exactly is happening at the Quatermass Arena.

Is everything back on schedule now?

The Sevco High Command do not have their troubles to seek at the moment.

However, at least they have the assistance of a compliant media who obediently wait in line for succulent emails from the building site that John Brown used to play for.

  1. Don’t often watch them but did the other night. The standard of football. Deary me. I love how the pundits strain every syllable to pronouns phiipppppe’s name. Trying to add some exotic spin to what is just bog standard punt baws in the box stuff. Mcinnes could deliver that style of play and on budget. His jacket (wee deeks) will be on the shoogly peg by advent. Big Phil will be doing just that to his boots and off to haunt someone else’s gaff

  2. Bad enough having to play home games away from Ibrox, presumably having to pay an agreed fee to the SFA Into the bargain whilst using Hampden.
Having listened to Clement pre match and post match he doesn’t half talk a load of nonsense which in addition to a poor set of results must have the fans asking ‘Is this the right man for the job?’
However moving him on would be costly given his current contract length.
Moreover finding a suitable replacement who would need a significant outlay to revamp the squad will be easier said than done.
If Celtic continue to wrack up the points in the SPFL over the next few weeks then win the upcoming Rangers match, then pegging back the points gap might already be too big a job for any manager, new or otherwise.

  3. I believe Celtic will gain more of the broadcasting pool with the rangers out. The Klan may just have paid for the first Idah installment. Generous folk down Ibrox way.

  4. Read recently the transfer fees paid in respect of Dessers Danilo and Lammers.
Lol, they were shafted or their figures have been exaggerated: exaggerated, to try and show them as a big club (?) and to keep the pretence of matching Celtic.
The MSM and Sky duly oblige.

They were shafted……but not for as much as they claim.🤣

  5. But, but, but we are the people.

    But, but, but the referees.

But, but, but Lawell controls UEFA and the SFA

But, but, but biased media scrutiny

But, but, but we hold up the coefficient.

And when all else fails, sing songs about killing fenians.

  6. An attendance that probably didn’t cover costs last night, a lower than expected attendance on Saturday, thanks to the late kick off and the game being played at Hampden, concomitant losses for catering, unnecessary stewarding, utilities, ongoing bills for staff, utilities & contractors at the building site, Hagi & Cantwell’s eye-watering contracts, an extra year compo for Phil & co, severance for Elite, Edminston House, a slowly awakening fan base, FFP, a chaotic boardroom.
This Klub needs a good administrator…..

  7. Why is it that Rangers managers ,over the past 10years or so, seem to whinge, greet, whinge ,greet etc.,etc. Last night the rangers player led with his left arm and elbow across the Kyiv players face. Yellow card added to earlier yellow card for stomping = RED card. Simples! How much are we being paid for use of our national stadium?

    • Agree, how much are bbc and sfa bailing them out with Hampden and tv rights? Then the bbc become a non impartial broadcaster worse than rangers tv?

  8. No sympathy from me for all that’s befallen them .
They cheated Celtic and all the other clubs during the EBT years
Have shown no remorse or contrition regards events of 2012
But along with a compliant media blamed everything on everything and anyone .
I hope their pain lingers on and on year upon year .

  9. Last season their net transfer dealings resulted in a €3.5m deficit , this season it currently stands at a € 10.8m deficit ( according to transfermarkt) ” I love the smell of napalm in the morning ” I also love the smell of nae steel , nae home , nae CL money , nae transfers , nae soft loans and nae Legal victories .

  10. Although I an a diehard Celtic fan, I thought that the decision to send off the rangers player for a second yellow was an absolute disgrace from what I seen it wasn’t even a foul. Not only did it cost rangers the game it cost them much needed money that they badly need. It also means Scotland will be mocked as a second rate football nation once again. So any of our fans who took joy tonight should be ashamed.
    Yours Sincerely
    Pinocchio.

  11. They will have made a further deficit with all the empty seats last night. Someone needs to ask the sfa if they are operating hampden at a loss whilst sevco are using it.
