An honest man at Ibrox

Once more the likeable straight-talking Dutchman served it up on a platter for the Stenography Corps.

This time at the post-match presser following Sevco’s 3-1 home defeat to Ajax.

He couldn’t have been any clearer:

“I’ve read many stories that we struck gold with so many millions coming in. It’s not true. All the figures that I see in papers. We don’t have that budget to spend. So that’s another thing that’s also we saw in the beginning we play Champions league so we have forty million extra. Those are not true and that creates a of course you know an expectation of we can buy new players but you know I think the way we are we bought the players this season is to qualify for Champions League but I don’t think that the club will spend millions if the millions aren’t there.”

None of this will come as any surprise to my regular readers.

Follow Follow the money.
Once more:

“I don’t think that the club will spend millions if the millions aren’t there.”

This statement of fact should not be lost in the noise level about the worst ever Champions league performance, zero points and a minus twenty goal difference.

Now, if the millions aren’t there, where are they?

Unsurprisingly the Ibrox klanbase wants a new miracle worker rather than address the inconvenient truth spoken by their current manager in that presser.

Then again, facing up to the truth is not their main strength.

Today in the WebSummit, There is a smorgasbord of great content.

There are three stages running simultaneously (sport, books and the Fourth Estate), and I want to cover all of them.

Consequently, my personal schedule on the App is redolent of the tough choices that I have to make.

Life is about choices and facing up to what is possible.

Although I don’t think that will ever catch on in the Blue Room

Bom dia de Lisboa!

  1. Mailman, you say” as part of the establishment, they won’t be allowed to die”, this statement is part of the continuation lie, the anniversary of their death was only a few days ago, unless of course, you believe this to be the original rangers and liquidation is a myth.

  2. For all their failures in Europe, and some really dire performances domestically, they are still only four points behind us.

Right them off at your peril, particularly now that VAR is in town. We’ve already seen how one sevconian tag-team has attempted to influence one of our games.

  3. He may have been one of the most obnoxious men in football but Souness made an interesting point about how much tv money English football receives compared to Scotland but only when it’s taken out of context.
    The question really is:
How much do Ajax and all the rest of the smaller European teams who outperformed Celtic and Sevco receive from their own particular deals and how is it used?

  4. If this was Celtic
The media in Scotland would be all over it .
Their silence on the financial situation at Ibrox is deafening.
And has been for years .
Their losses since their inception back in 2012 are horrendous.
It’s only thanks to rich benefactors that they keep going .
But eventually even that has to stop .
    They simply can’t sustain it
But we all know as part of the establishment they will never be allowed to die .
If it had been Celtic or any other club put into liquidation you can bet the old it was the holding company ,engine room subsidiary ruse would not have been given the light of day .

  5. GVB is the holder of a Champions League winners medal. He was part of the same Barcelona team as the King of Kings when they won it together. he must be gutted to part of the Sevco shit show that produced the worst Champions League record of all time. The man is too good for them and should get himself out as soon as he can (with his contract payed in full of course).

  6. sevco might be the worst CL team ever – but the team has provided, literally, hours of enjoyable entertainment.
    🙂
Don’t think Gio will be able to re-energise his squad, and don’t think he’ll get punted before January either.
The sevco squad must be an unhappy place to be just now?

  7. As I said before…. He’s one of the more acceptable faces of Sevco….He seems a decent guy.
    But will they sack him…?
More to the point…however…is…Can they afford to sack him?
As it stands…there isn’t a Club waiting to offer compensation to Sevco for GVB and his management team’s services.
They would have to pay up the balance of his and his management team’s contracts…and then there is the, not insignificant matter, of shelling out for a new Management team.
Based on the speculation surrounding their dire financial situation…I don’t see how this would be possible.
I feel sorry for the guy…but that is outweighed by the pleasure I get from the turmoil he is causing.

    • I think the words above are fair and the locks at Ibrox will be locked come the end of the season but will their be a influx of quality players to seize and sustain Champions League entry and progression having qualified for a European Final last year?

  8. Apparently Lenin was fond of saying facts have hard heads. Perhaps it is the beating of these sounding in Ipox now, rather than their beloved Lambeg drum.
