Why the Saracens story could not happen in Scottish football

Firstly, full disclosure, Rugger Guy has been bending my ear about Saracens for over a year.

My Harlequins buddy reckons that they’re all wrong uns!

No doubt he is basking in righteous schadenfreude at this news.

This is a telling quote from Tony Rowe, chief executive of Exeter:

“They should be relegated…it just leaves a sour taste in the mouth when you go to Twickenham and we just didn’t quite have enough firepower, you know? And that’s because we didn’t break the salary cap and pack our squad full of international players.”

That sounds very much like an unfair sporting advantage.

I was amused to see this from Tom English of BBC Scotland.

A rugby man himself he will undoubtedly be well versed on what has been happening at Saracens.

Of course, any club, no matter the code, who has indulged in cheating should have their fraudulent titles stripped.

However, that rationale does not apply on Planet Fitba.

The EBT decade brought plenty of silverware for the original Rangers.

In the end, it killed them so there is a natural justice there.

However, the records show that David Murray’s Rangers acquired league titles and cups with no mention that they did it the Ben Johnson way.

They scammed the taxman and their hidden payments meant that scores of players were not properly registered with the SFA.

If proper governance had been in place then the matches that those players played in would have been awarded as a three-nil victory to the other side.

Instead, it was found that the players were just “imperfectly registered”.

This is just one legacy issue of the Rangers cheating years that is still unresolved.

As my recent reporting shows, Sevco is following the same financial doping strategy as Rangers.

The moral hazard of this is clear to anyone with the facility of reason and a working memory.

If Mr Doncaster and Mr Regan had succeeded in their plan in 2012 then Sevco would have been parachuted into the top flight of the then Scottish Premier League.

Only the “No To NewCo” campaign prevented that.

Their Plan B then hit the brick wall of the later great Turnbull Hutton on the steps of Hampden.

Had this happened then the message to those in the Blue Room would have been clear.

Borrow, liquidate, repeat.

Now the new Ibrox club is fielding a side that they cannot afford, just like Saracens.

In the aftermath of the Hampden standoff in the summer of 2012, the rules have been changed to allow for a parachute entry by a phoenix club.

Going on published accounts there is only place where that is likely to happen at the moment on Planet Fitba.

The Rangers saga and the Sevco shitshow both lead back to a lack of governance from the blazers at Hampden.

It would appear that they see their function is to assist the Ibrox franchise no matter what.

That has a long history indeed.

Now, that is a story that the local media should be all over.

  1. I have just transferred my Season Ticket to my Grandson.
After 60 years of supporting Celtic …I’ve decided that the Board’s decision not to back Res.12 is the final straw.
Tonight’s great result is tarnished by this disgusting decision…and I want no more part of it.
Perhaps one day we’ll get to the truth of the matter….although if our Board have any say on the matter…we won’t.
Why we have remained silent and propped up this filthy stain on Scottish football is beyond me.
    Shame on you Celtic FC.

  2. The souper, English, is a disgrace and an embarrassment. His toadying to the Sevco brand is vile. What king if Irishman would suck up to an institution that is steeped in anti-Irish hatred?

  3. They need 10m not including the SD compensation to see them through the season. If they are challenging then the money will be got by hook or crook, However should they lose points then the future could be bleak

  4. Any Celtic Supporter who continues to pay to go to Hampden to watch this farce is complicit in keeping this going.
I haven’t set foot in a Scottish Football Stadium for years.
I have however watched Football in several English ones.
I have the means to do so but choose ultimately not to do so.
I cottoned on to what was going on decades ago.
I love Celtic, love the game of Football more than any other but I won’t pay into a charade out of principle.
That is the charade that is Scottish Football and the charade that is Celtic PLC.
I admire those that continue to dig deep and do so but ultimately I feel you as well.
This is not going to end well for any of us who love both Celtic and the game.
We are coming to a crossroad as Tim’s.
At the most important of junctures too as we fast approach the 9th and hopefully 10th consecutive League Titles in a row.
It seems to me anyway fate will intervene and the current situation will only end in one way.
    Shambles.
A shambles created by those present up in Secret as the 5 Way knuckle shuffle was signed.
Perhaps a half empty Hampden might save the day?
Something drastic needs to happen and as far as I can see it only the Celtic Support and a handful of others from a few more Clubs that are remotely interested in changing things for the better?
Our own Board don’t seem overly perplexed whilst there is upwards of £30m sat in the Accounts and a Trophy Cabinet straining at the weight of Silver?
Mibees it’s not Silver but fools Gold?
Meanwhile roll up roll up folks and look at the shiny shiny 🎪🤹🏻‍♂️🤹🏻‍♂️🤹🏻‍♂️

  5. Bandito, Deltic are aware of of what goes on and say nothing. their fans are also aware but still buy season tickets for a corrupt product. If SEVCO win the league it will be too late to cry foul.

  6. Tom English is as thick as the BENNY’S. How he can produce that tweet about Saracens and not mention the CHISLING that’s been going on at ibrox for years is astonishing. This muppet is getting paid by a so called newspaper as well as picking up a coin at the BBC for supposedly highlighting this stuff but he chooses to ignore sevco on the same cheating scale as Saracens you couldn’t make it up . Now as FFP Celtic and the rest of the Scottish mug clubs are allowing sevco to live beyond their means while their clubs miss out on European cup competition money . So they only have themselves to blame as they are encouraging sevco with their cheating plan as they go along with it on a sponsored silence basis.

  7. Maybe the Saracens’ international rugby players will follow the 2012 precedent and threaten to boycott the international team followed by a Saracens fans’ protest march to Twickenham.
However, I believe that these chaps will realise that they have been caught breaking the rules and accept their punishment without the rancour displayed by their football playing cousins north of the border.

  8. We all know the Sevco show will be tolerated simply because the SFA model requires there to be an opposing derby (Old or not) where revenue is generated that serves a function (Dysfunction?)

I hate the fact they are getting away with clear FFP issues, living beyond their means, have a complicit SM as well as a few spin docs floating around.

Although I want them and the brand of insidious hatred gone I can’t see it happening until there is an outside influence from the likes of Sky sports for e.g.

I’m hopeful that DD has a plan to watch them die ever so slowly and painfully and we are in that phase of demise.

Roll on Downfall 2 but it may not be the end.
